NBA Basketball Betting: Orlando Magic at Memphis Grizzlies

Added January 26, 2015 by Levi Watkins

Non conference action on Monday night as the struggling Orlando Magic head North to take on the Memphis Grizzlies. The Magic have been a poor performing team all season long and enter this game playing some of their worst basketball of the season. Orlando is on a 5 game losing streak, have lost 8 of their last 10 games and 15 of their last 20 games. They played yesterday, losing 106-99 at home to the Indiana Pacers failing to cover as +1′ point home chalk. The Memphis Grizzlies have been a very strong team all season long and are now tied with Portland for second place in the Western Conference. Both the Grizz and Blazers–along with the fourth place Houston Rockets–are trying to stay within shouting distance of the scorching hot Golden State Warriors. Memphis and Portland are 5.5 games behind Golden State with Houston 6.5 games back. With the Warriors winning 14 of their last 15 there’s a pressure for every other contending team in the Western Conference to raise their level of play.

Orlando has put up some decent pointspread numbers in certain spots this season. They’re 17-10 ATS on the road despite a 10-17 straight up record. They’ve also made money playing opponents with winning records–against teams with a record over .500 the Magic are 13-7 ATS despite a 5-15 SU record. They’re also 22-18 as an underdog which suggests a team that at least tries to compete on most nights but lacks the talent to win straight up. As bad as their record is they’re only 5 games out of a playoff spot in the weak Eastern Conference.

Memphis is just a mediocre pointspread team and given their defensive oriented style of play they’re not a team to look at with a big price to cover. Against opponents with losing records they’re 7-11 ATS despite a 14-4 SU record. They’ve failed to cover as a home favorite of 9.5 to 12 points. They are 6-3-1 ATS in their last 10 games but there’s a serious focus question with a much more important road game against the Dallas Mavericks on deck. The public completely ignores Orlando but they’ve cashed tickets in certain situations and this looks like one of them. We’ll take the road dog getting a ton of points.
