NFL Football Betting: Denver Broncos at Detroit Lions

Added September 27, 2015 by Levi Watkins

Non conference football action in Sunday prime time as the Denver Broncos head East to take on the Detroit Lions. Peyton Manning may have lost a bit of the velocity that we’ve seen in the past but the reality is that the Broncos are 2-0 SU and ATS on the season while the Lions are 0-2. Denver has a home game against Minnesota on deck for next week while the Lions have a tough road game at Seattle. A loss here and the Lions could very easily be staring at an 0-4 record to start the season.

As we noted at the outset, Peyton Manning might not be the quarterback he once was. The good news is that both he and head coach Gary Kubiak realize this and are working to adapt the Broncos offense to compensate. Manning has always been considered to be one of the most cerebral NFL quarterbacks and now we’ve got an opportunity to see this in action. Based on what we’ve seen so far, there’s no reason whatsoever to think that the Broncos are going to ‘go into the tank’ in what will almost certainly be the final year in Manning’s Hall of Fame career.

Meanwhile in Detroit, the Lions are having trouble regaining their defensive swagger now that Ndamukong Suh is no longer on the team. They’ve still got some weapons on this side of the ball so we expect it to come together for the Lions’ stop unit sooner rather than later. Matthew Stafford is banged up but the quarterback is expected to play.

Broncos have failed to cover in 8 of their last 10 on turf going 3-7 SU in those games. They’ve also lost SU and ATS in their last two appearances in a dome. They’ve been a solid favorite (20-15 ATS) while the Lions have struggled when getting points (2-8 SU/3-7 ATS) over the past few years. That being said, we’re thinking that the Broncos are a bit overvalued based on ‘name recognition’ while the Lions are undervalued by virtue of their 0-2 start to the season. We’ll look for the home team to scrap out a victory.
