NFL Divisional Playoffs - Dallas Cowboys v Minnesota Vikings

NFL Football Betting: Minnesota Vikings at Green Bay Packers

Added September 30, 2014 by Levi Watkins

The Thursday night NFL game this week features a NFC North battle between the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings. Both teams are 2-2 on the season which is likely more acceptable to the Vikings who won only five games last year than it is to the Packers who see themselves as a playoff threat. There is some concern in Green Bay with the Packers coming off a 8-7-1 season in 2013 that this team has reached the end of it’s run as a championship threat.

Minnesota looked to be heading into a downward spiral following the loss of Adrian Peterson due to his legal imbroglio and an injury to starting quarterback Matt Cassell. It hasn’t quite worked out that way thanks to the sensational performance of rookie Teddy Bridgewater in his first NFL start. Bridgewater was 19 of 30 for 317 yards with no interceptions as the Vikings beat the Atlanta Falcons 41-28. There was some concern that Bridgewater would be unavailable this week due to an ankle injury but he’s listed as ‘probable’ on the latest injury report and every indication is that he’ll play.

The Green Bay Packers are also coming off a win, beating their long time rivals Chicago 38-17. That appears to have placated the Packers’ fans for the time being but that might just be ‘wishful thinking’. Aaron Rodgers looked good against Chicago but there’s little else that has gone right for Green Bay this year. Rodgers is still in his prime but there are serious questions as to whether the Packers as a team are improving or regressing.

One thing that is certain is that the Packers are usually overrated and overpriced at Lambeau Field. Green Bay is a decent enough 13-5 straight up on the ‘frozen tundra’ but just 9-8 against the spread. So far this season they’re 1-0 SU at home though their 7 point win over the New York Jets was a push against the number. With Bridgewater playing at a high level this price looks a bit too high. Green Bay’s defense is nothing special these days so we’re of the opinion that the Vikings can keep it close. Make sure to monitor the injury reports for any update on Bridgewater’s status–much less enthusiastic about the Vikings with Christian Ponder under center.
