Super Bowl Prop Bets, Part III

Added January 29, 2014 by Levi Watkins

As much fun as it is to wager on what the Super Bowl XLVIII temperature will be, or what color Gatorade will get dumped on the winning coach, there is an actual game to be played between two excellent football teams. As such, there are numerous bets to be made that only pertain to things that will happen during the final four quarters of the 2013 NFL season. Leaving aside the cute and the silly, here are some prop bets worth considering.

Total team points, Broncos – Over/under 25 – Indianapolis is the only team to score more than 24 against the Seahawks. Denver is averaging 25 points in two playoff games. If you believe Seattle’s D is as good as advertised, bet the under.

Will there be a D/ST touchdown? Yes +160, No -200 – The two teams combined for 9 special teams/defensive scores during the regular season. That’s not an extremely high number and neither quarterback is prone to interceptions.

Total penalties in the game: Over/under 12.5 – Denver and Seattle have totaled 269 penalties in 18 games. That averages out to 14.9 per game. The refs normally try to call fewer infractions in the Super Bowl, but the over seems safe.

Will Peyton Manning throw a pick-six? Yes +400, No -700 – Well, he did the last time he played on this stage (see Tracy Porter). Richard Sherman and Walter Thurmond have each notched a pick-six this season.

Will Percy Harvin be injured in the game? Yes +200, No -300 – Poor Percy. The guy gets hurt so much, it’s just expected that he won’t make it through the game unscathed.

Total receiving yards for Demaryius Thomas: Over/under 75.5 – Unlike Aqib Talib and Darrelle Revis, Richard Sherman doesn’t usually shadow the opposing team’s top target. That said, Thomas is the Broncos most dangerous scoring threat, so Pete Carroll might change his strategy.

Will last play of game be a QB rush? Yes -160, No +140 – This would mean the leading team will be protecting a lead. Wait, no drama? No potentially fantastic finish? BOOOOO!!!
