NHL Hockey Betting: Vancouver Canucks at Boston Bruins

Added February 24, 2015 by Levi Watkins

Non conference hockey action in Boston on Tuesday night as the hometown Bruins host the Vancouver Canucks. Vancouver has been playing reasonably good hockey of late and are holding on to the #2 spot in the Pacific Division, at least for now. But they don’t have a lot of ‘breathing room’—they’re three points ahead of three teams. Calgary, San Jose and Los Angeles each have 68 points meaning that the Canucks need to keep winning if they hope to stay out of that three way scrum. Vancouver is coming off a win over the New York Islanders in their last action and have gone 6-4-0 in their last 10 games.

The Boston Bruins have been slumping bigtime of late though they are coming off a 6-3 win at Chicago which might say more about the poor form of the Blackhawks than anything positive about the Bruins. That victory ended a six game losing streak for the Bruins who have now lost 7 of their last 9. At least the scheduling works out fairly well since they’ll have three days off before they play at New Jersey on Friday night. The Bruins still hold the final wild card playoff spot in the Eastern Conference though they’ve got plenty of company with the Florida Panthers just 3 points back and the Philadelphia Flyers 4 points behind.

Vancouver is a banged up team at the moment. The biggest loss is starting goaltender Ryan Miller who will miss most, if not all, of the remaining regular season action. Eddie Lack has done a credible job in relief of Miller this year and will really need to step up in his absence as he’s the Canucks’ best goaltending option at this point. Forward Alexandre Burrows is listed as ‘questionable’ while Vancouver is also down four defensemen due to injuries.

The Bruins may be coming off a win over the Blackhawks but in no way does that suggest a ‘turnaround’. It might also present a ‘letdown situation’ with Boston facing a much more important Eastern Conference foe later this week. Vancouver is still the better team and we’re getting them at a nice underdog price.
