Masters Golf Tournament Underway In Augusta, GA

Easily the most iconic and picturesque of all of pro golf’s major tournaments, the Masters is underway in Augusta, Georgia. The big story, however, has been about a golfer that *isn’t* playing in the event. Tiger Woods–easily the most famous golfer in the world–has been forced to skip the Masters for the first time in 20 years due to his ailing back. Tiger’s back has been bothering him for some time and he finally decided to undergo surgery on March 31 to relieve a pinched nerve. The surgery requires a two week immobilization period which means he’s not even able to show up for the Champions Dinner and other ceremonial events. Tiger will be out of action until mid summer at the earliest and there’s been at least some gloomy speculation that his career may be over.

In early first round play defending champion Adam Scott is atop the leader board at -4 under par just ahead of Miguel Angel Jimenez at -3 under. 7 golfers are tied at -2 under with a logjam of 15 at -1 under par. The tournament continues through Sunday.
